Deep Tissue Laser Therapy
We now offer Class IV Deep Tissue Laser Therapy
Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is a safe and effective alternative to medication and injections.
Laser Therapy uses a process called photobiomodulation to change the condition of damaged tissue by stimulating cellular metabolism, thereby accelerating the healing process.
Shortly after laser was invented in 1960, Endre Mester noticed that applying laser light to the backs of shaven mice caused their hair to grow back more quickly than mice not exposed to laser. He also noticed that skin lacerations appeared to heal faster on laser-treated animals. In 2003, The FDA approved its first Class IV laser for the relief of muscle and joint pain. Prior to 2003 the maximum strength of therapeutic laser in the U.S. was the Class 3b, at .5 watts. At Repsher PT, we use the newest generation LightForce Laser, with 25 watts of power for penetrating deep into tissue structures.
The recent development of higher power Class IV Lasers allows physical therapists to deliver adequate doses of light deep into tissue to reduce pain and inflammation while accelerating healing. Laser therapy is endorsed by the World Health Organization, the American Physical Therapy Association, and the International Association for the Study of Pain.
Over 3,000 research studies have been conducted in the field. Deep Tissue Laser Therapy can be used to treat pain and inflammation associated with the following conditions:
Bursitis
Disc issues
Epicondylitis
Low back pain
Neck pain
Neuropathy
Plantar Fasciitis
Sciatica
Shoulder, hip, and knee pain
Sports injuries
Sprains and strains
Tendinitis
Tendinosis
We now have another tool to help our patients reduce their reliance on opioids for pain control. Working closely with their physicians, we are hopeful that Deep Tissue Laser will decrease the number of patients who become addicted to opioid drugs.
Deep Tissue Laser Therapy Success Stories
JoAnn B. - Restless Leg Syndrome
I have, over the past several years, received physical therapy at Repsher & Associates for both muscular and nerve pain issues. Each time, Matt has been my therapist and together we have worked to successfully eliminate my pain. I therefore recently reached out to Matt once again when my restless leg syndrome had progressed to a significant nightly nuisance which was going to require levels of medication that I wanted to avoid if possible. I asked Matt if he had ever treated Restless Leg Syndrome with Physical Therapy, and he responded that while Restless Leg Syndrome was not something they often see, they have had success treating neuropathy type issues with the use of LightForce Laser treatments, and that Laser treatments combined with a regimen of stretching exercises might be successful in mitigating my symptoms. Given our past successes and my desire to avoid medication if possible, I was delighted to give Physical Therapy a try once again! Over the past two months, the recommended laser therapy, combined with targeted stretching exercises, has remarkably reduced my restless leg issues. The nightly spasms have stopped completely, with only occasional twinges or leg stiffness. Given the significant progress made, we have decided to stop the laser treatments at this time. I will continue the stretching exercises three to four times a week and will resume laser treatments on an “as needed” basis if I experience an uptick in nightly leg activity!
I am truly grateful to Matt for facilitating the incredible improvement I have experienced. Over the years, I have been consistently impressed by the Personalized Care one receives at Repsher & Associates. Additionally, I am appreciative of the caring and unhurried manner I have both witnessed and experienced in every interaction from the Therapists as well as the Check-in and Scheduling Staff.
William K. - Neuropathy
I developed neuropathy several years ago, but only recently was so discomforted by pain that I sought help through physical therapy. The pain in my left foot was no longer bearable. The recommended laser therapy, combined with targeted stretches and exercises, has remarkably reduced random, reoccurring pain in my left foot. The targeted exercises/stretch regimen prescribed by these professionals at Repsher has made a significant difference in my ability to walk.
